You have seen this before. You sign up for a service at a price that feels fair, use it happily for a year, and then one day an email arrives. Your subscription is going up. Nothing about the product changed for you, but the deal did. It is one of the most common and quietly frustrating parts of the subscription world, and we decided early on that Envelop was not going to work that way.

The deal you agree to is the deal you keep

When you subscribe to Envelop, the price you sign up at is locked in. That is your price for as long as you keep your subscription. We will not raise it on you. Not after a year, not after five years, not ever. Whatever you agreed to on the day you subscribed is what you pay.

We think this is simply how it should work. You made a decision based on a number. Changing that number after the fact, once you have already built your budget around Envelop and made it part of your routine, is not something we are willing to do.

Why we feel strongly about this

There is a plain principle underneath all of it: we do not change the terms of the sale after the sale. When you buy something, the terms you agreed to are the terms you get. That is true for the features you signed up for, and it is just as true for the price you signed up at.

Grandfathering the people who already subscribe is not a promotion or a limited-time offer. It is just how we intend to run the business. The trust you place in a tool that handles your money is not something we take lightly, and quietly nudging your rate up would be a strange way to repay it.

Grandfathered means locked. If our pricing ever changes for new customers down the road, your rate stays exactly where it was the day you subscribed. You are not along for that ride.

What about the future?

Here is the honest part, because we would rather be straight with you than make a promise with our fingers crossed. We have no plans to raise prices. None. We are comfortable with what Envelop costs, and we would be glad to leave it exactly where it is for the long haul.

That said, we are not going to pretend we can see the future. Envelop is a small, independent product, and it is at least possible that someday circumstances could change in a way that affects pricing. If that day ever comes, a new price would only ever apply to new sign-ups. Everyone already subscribed stays right where they are. So even in the one scenario where a price moves at all, your price does not.

In plain terms

That is the whole promise. No asterisks pointing at fine print, no rate that creeps upward while you are not looking. Just a fair price that stays a fair price.

This is in writing, on purpose

We did not want this to live only as a nice sentiment on a blog post. We have written it into our Terms of Use as a binding price guarantee, so the commitment we are making here is part of the agreement you enter when you subscribe.

Do us a favor: bookmark this page, or take a screenshot of it. We put this in writing on purpose, and we would be glad for you to keep a copy and hold us to our word.
